TIPS ON HOW YOUR PET CAN SAVE YOU MONEY

Here are some tips on keeping your pet and your pocketbook healthy:
- Consider pet insurance. By planning ahead, you'll be reimbursed if your pet needs costly testing and treatment at the vet's.
- Feed a good quality diet. Premium diets are designed to keep your pet healthy and prevent diseases like bladder stones in cats.
- Don't let Rover get fat. That unsightly gut predisposes your pet to diseases such as diabetes and fatty liver syndrome and puts extra stress on the joints and heart.
- Take your pet to the vet once a year for a checkup and if already sick, don't wait extra days to go. The longer you wait, the sicker the pet will become, and the more likely it will need extra care.
- Keep vaccinations up to date.
- Make sure your pet gets preventive dental care., including home brushings and professional cleanings from the vet. Infected teeth are a source of bacteria that will spread to your dog or cat's heart, liver and kidneys. Let them flash those pearly whites!
- Petproof your house. Tuck away those electrical cords, small toys, elastic bands, twist ties, medications, and poisonous house plants and don't let them operate any heavy machinery if drowsy (OK, not the last one).
