Reiki is a Japanese system of energy healing in which practitioners channel life energy into the body by placing their hands on specific parts of the body. Sandra Melvin of Saint John, Canada recently decided to combine her love of animals with her knowledge of Reiki and reflexology into a new business: Reiki Paws, which will offer healing and relaxation to pets, including dogs, cats and even horses.

Melvin says that therapies like Reiki promote relaxation, which allows the body to heal itself, and should accompany veterinary care.
